autumn begins

stepping over sweat
instead of cracks
train wrecks of burden
collide with sighs
once impenetrable emotions
turn about face
in the April ever after
this undecorated, sweet mess
rises like a cake
trading weights
for biology

even though i dreamed
of my nostalgia up for auction
so now mommy's little girl
composes herself
of excuses and apologies
